Clampers 'ignoring court order'

A clamping company which towed a Bristol man's car away has refused to hand it back despite a court order.

George Maggs said Bulldog Services is refusing to acknowledge a Bristol County Court judgement against it.

The company has been ordered to return Mr Maggs' Rover and pay him £500 damages and £250 for loss of use.

Bulldog, which has a Post Office box in Bridgwater, said it had clamped Mr Maggs's car because it was on private land when it should not have been.

'Parking permit'

A spokesman for the company said they would have defended themselves in court had they known Mr Maggs was taking action against them.

He said the company would appeal against the court's ruling, but until then they would not return his car.

Lawyer and former president of the Bristol Law Society Andrew Gregg said he would advise Mr Maggs to go back to the county court.

"I'd advise him to ask the judge for an order committing Bulldog, or whoever is behind it, to prison for contempt," he said.

"Or if it is a limited company he could issue a statutory demand and apply to wind the company up."

Mr Gregg added: "If Bulldog dispute the order they would have to go back to court and ask for the judgement to be set aside."
