Man is sought after armed robbery

A man is being sought by police after an armed robbery at a building society in Bristol.

Police were called to the Yorkshire Building Society in Union Street on Friday afternoon after an alarm was activated by branch staff.

"The man told staff it was a robbery and that he had a gun. Staff operated security shutters and the man fled," a police spokesman said.

The man is described as black and 5ft 9in tall, with a shaved head.

Staff described the man as slim and aged between 25 and 30. He was wearing a dark jacket with a quilted front and was carrying a black rucksack and a carrier bag.

Witnesses to the robbery, which took place at 1425 BST on 10 July, are asked to contact police or Crimestoppers.
