Man in hospital after city attack

A man in his 20s is in a critical condition in Frenchay hospital, near Bristol, after being assaulted in the Montpellier area of the city.

Avon and Somerset Police said the man had been attacked in the early hours of Saturday. A 19-year-old man had been arrested, a spokesman added.

Ashley Hill has been cordoned off at the junction with Chesterfield Road while police continue investigations.

The police spokesman asked for witnesses to come forward.
