Lib Dems swipe seat from Labour

The Liberal Democrats have taken a seat from Labour in a Bristol City Council by-election.

Tony Potter won St George West with a majority of 107, reinforcing the party's position as the largest group on the council.

The seat was made vacant by the death in August of 56-year-old Labour councillor John Deasy.

The Conservatives, who were previously runners-up, said they were disappointed to be pushed into third place.
