Man held after police stand-off

The scene in Bath on Thursday

A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of throwing objects off a building in Bath.

Armed police sealed off James Street West, Avon Street and Westgate Buildings while they were involved in a stand-off at the scene.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said the arrested man had been taken to hospital for medical checks.

An eyewitness claimed a bare-chested man had threatened to throw himself off the building.

Some of the bystanders also reportedly heard the man making demands to see his son and a woman was seen being allowed through the police cordon.
