Leisure complex to have 50m pool

Drawing of the Hengrove Park 50m swimming pool

The centrepiece of a new leisure complex in south Bristol will be a 50m swimming pool with a moveable floor.

The Olympic-size pool is expected to help provide enough capacity across the city to deliver the government's free swimming imitative.

The £29.7m leisure centre at Hengrove Park forms part of phase one of the wider Hengrove Park regeneration.

The development promises a new south Bristol Community Hospital and a Skills Academy for local people.

On Thursday 31 July Bristol City Councillors will meet to select a partner to build and run the multi-million pound health and leisure complex.

All the new facilities would face on to a central plaza and there would be new cycle facilities, car parking and a bus terminus with improved public transport links.

It is due to open in 2010.
