Sledgehammer gang raid jewellers

Robbery

Four men armed with sledgehammers have robbed a jewellery store in Clifton in Bristol.

The men stole what is being described as a substantial amount of high value jewellery from the Millennium Two shop.

Police said the raid happened at 1430 BST and many people would have witnessed the robbery.

Two of the men were described as white and two were black. They were all wearing hooded tops and gloves. The value of the haul is not yet known.

Police believe the men drove up The Mall before turning in to Portland Street prior to the robbery.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who saw what happened, particularly an elderly couple who walked past as the men arrived.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said plenty of people would have been outside drinking in nearby pubs, one of them the Brunel, and have appealed for them to come forward.

The gang escaped in a blue Ford Focus estate before transferring to a white Ford Escort van.
