Man critical after A46 collision

A man is in a critical condition in hospital after his car was involved in a collision with another car on the A46 near Bath.

The crash happened shortly after 2100 BST when a Mercedes and a Renault collided at Upper Swainswick.

The driver of the Mercedes was taken to hospital with life-threatening head and internal injuries.

A passenger in the Mercedes and the driver of the second vehicle both suffered minor injuries.

Police think one of the vehicles hit scaffolding around a nearby building after the collision.

The A46 was closed pending examination by the road policing unit's collision investigation unit, but has since reopened.

Police would like to hear from anyone who may have been on the A46 at the time of the incident to contact them.
