Primary school sex attack inquiry

An inquiry has been carried out after allegations a primary school pupil was sexually assaulted by three classmates.

The accused boys were excluded from Cabot Primary School in St Pauls, Bristol, but are to return on Monday.

Police said education officials and social workers were dealing with the incident because the children involved were so young.

The city council said it had worked with the school to carry out an assessment of risk to other children.

Thorough investigation

"On the basis of this assessment, the school has decided to allow the children to return.

"The council will continue to support the school in dealing with this issue to ensure all children at the school are safe," the council said.

Lindsey Dowdell, chair of governors at the school said: "An incident in school has happened that the school took very seriously.

"Social care were informed and did a thorough investigation and recommended that the children involved return to school.

"We have all the children's interests at heart and have taken all the advice available."

Ian Dury, a spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: "It was deemed the best course of action would be for social services and the local education authority to deal with the incident, because those involved were young children and below the age of criminal responsibility."
