Safety checks on airport shuttles

Vehicles taking passengers to Bristol International Airport from nearby car parks have been checked by police and safety inspectors.

More than 20 courtesy vehicles were examined to find out if they were safe and their drivers were properly licensed and insured.

A North Somerset council spokesman said safety was paramount and it would clamp down on those flouting the rules.

One vehicle was prohibited from use due to defects found by police.

Some of the drivers stopped were found to have incorrect insurance and one had an invalid driving licence.
