Arts academy to open year earlier
An arts academy in Bristol is to open a year earlier than planned.
The Oasis Academy was to open on the site of Hengrove Community Arts College in September 2009, but this has been brought forward to 2008.
The idea is to reduce the transition period. The government has agreed extra resources to help cover costs.
Plans to close New Oak Primary School and create a three-to-18 years academy in Hengrove were recently rejected by Bristol City Council's cabinet.
The academy will specialise in performing arts and visual arts.
It will be sponsored by the Oasis Trust, a Christian charity which delivers education, healthcare and housing schemes in the UK and abroad.
