Recreation centre revamp complete

The Lodge, Goblin Combe The first phase of a £1.6m redevelopment of an outdoor sports centre in North Somerset is complete.

The recreation centre at Goblin Combe, near Cleeve will be officially opened by the Earl of Wessex on 25 April.

The council-owned campsite is run by a charitable trust and provides outdoor and environmental education to school children and community groups.

Phase one has seen the original 1920s facility replaced with a new two-storey 38-bunk dormitory and washroom.

Work began on The Lodge in July 2006. Phase two will convert and extend the Grade II listed Goblin Combe Cottage.

The existing campsite showering and toilet facilities will also be renewed.

The Goblin Combe Trust is now aiming to raise £1.1m to carry out Phase two.
