Woman drives car into shop window

An elderly woman has accidentally reversed her car into a shop window in Bristol, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.

The red Vauxhall Astra careered into the front window of the Skate and Ski shop in Staple Hill High Street on Monday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the scene and the woman was taken to Frenchay Hospital with minor injuries.

The shop's stock of skis, snowboards and boots was also damaged.

One shop worker said: "I'm not sure what happened. I was standing by the counter serving a customer and this car just came through the window. It happened in a few seconds."

A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue said: "We were called just after 3.15pm and an elderly female was already out of the car when we arrived.

"She had gone through the window. We helped pull it back out. It was quite a mess."
