Man charged over 1987 sex attack

A man has been charged with raping a woman in West Yorkshire 20 years ago.

The 48-year-old man, from Huddersfield, is accused of raping a 49-year-old woman in the Bradley Mills area of the town on 1 November 1987.

He was arrested in Blackpool on Sunday following a joint operation by the West Yorkshire and Lancashire police forces.

A police spokesman said the alleged attack was one of a number of unsolved rape cases which had been reopened thanks to advances in DNA technology.

The man was due to appear at Leeds Magiestrates' Court on Tuesday morning.
