Woman dies after fall from bridge

A woman has died after she fell from a bridge onto a busy carriageway near Newbury in Berkshire.

Police were called to the A339, near the headquarters of Vodafone, just before rush hour on Friday morning.

It was not known if the woman was struck by a vehicle or whether she died from her fall from the bridge.

The A339 southbound was closed for a number of hours while police investigated but has now been reopened. Witnesses are now being sought.

Insp John Relph said: "A number of vehicles stopped at the scene, so we are keen to speak with these people.

"We would especially like to speak to the driver of a flat bed lorry."
