Power is restored to 3,000 homes

Electricity has been restored to more than 3,000 properties in Berkshire after contractors damaged cabling.

Power was cut at about 0800 BST on Friday in the Whitley Woods area, near Reading.

The majority of properties affected had the supply reconnected within an hour, a Southern Electric spokeswoman said.

But about 300 homes close the source of the problem did not have power restored until 1145 BST. Southern Electric apologised for the problem.
