Plans to develop a Berkshire town over the next 20 years are going out for public consultation.

The report, A Vision for Maidenhead Town Centre, shows how the town could provide more modern facilities.

It focuses on accessibility as well as the natural and physical environment and the quality of buildings.

The report was commissioned by the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Council and the Partnership for the Rejuvenation of Maidenhead (PRoM)

Bob Dulson, PRoM's chairman, said: "This is a major next step for the future of our town.

"We now have a plan that supports the inspiration and our determination to succeed. We have a sound basis for planning ahead."

The plan identifies five priority areas for regeneration:

• Redevelopment of Broadway, King Street and Queen Street (Triangle site)

• Mixed use development of the football ground/bowls club, York Road

• Refurbishment and expansion of the railway station

• Enhance York Stream integrate it into the town centre

• Development of the West Street area

Councillor David Burbage, the council leader and PRoM vice-chairman, said: "The regeneration of Maidenhead is a council priority and this new document is a significant advance in a relatively short space of time."
