Man drowns in river fetching ball

A man has drowned in the River Thames while trying to retrieve a ball.

The victim, believed to be in his 30s, was recovered from the water near Thames Valley Business Park in Reading, Berkshire, by specialist divers.

A police helicopter was sent to carry out an extensive search after the incident was reported by a member of the public on Wednesday night.

The body was taken to Royal Berkshire Hospital. The incident was not being treated as suspicious, police said.
