A man has been detained in hospital after he was arrested by police investigating sightings of a gunman roaming the streets of Berkshire.
Following the incident in Cippenham, Slough, this week, a 42-year-old man was arrested but deemed unfit to be interviewed.
Police were called on Tuesday after a man armed with a small gun made threats to people in the Bower Way area.
Thames Valley Police confirmed that a firearm had been recovered.
The man was admitted to hospital on Wednesday where he was due to be assessed over 72 hours with a view to further detention.
Increased patrols
It is believed that the man made several threats to a number of people including a bus driver and passers-by.
Det Insp Steve Armstead, of Thames Valley Police, said: "Although the arrested individual has been admitted to hospital at this time, our inquiries continue and we are currently speaking to a number of witnesses and victims.
"We have also seized a firearm which we believe was involved in the incident, which will now be examined.
"Clearly, the incident was distressing for those involved and worrying for the wider community of Slough, but I would reassure members of the public that a detailed and thorough investigation is well under way."
No one is understood to have been injured in the incident, but police have stepped up patrols in the area and schools have been kept informed.
A 48-year-old man arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has been released without charge.
