Ban for 'intimidating' teenager

Purnell Desouza (Photo: Thames Valley Police) A teenager who has been intimidating people in a Berkshire neighbourhood has been served with an anti-social behaviour order (Asbo).

Purnell Desouza, 14, of Bodmin Avenue, Slough, has been banned from entering nearby Britwell for two years.

He is also prohibited from behaving anti-socially anywhere in Slough.

Police said Purnell threw stones at buses and was verbally and physically aggressive towards residents and shopkeepers in Britwell.

If he breaches the Asbo, he faces a jail sentence or a fine.

Residents protected

"We hope that this court order will make the residents of Britwell feel safer," said Sgt Tony Welch.

"It is sad that we have to go to such measures with young people. However, on some occasions it is necessary to protect the community."

James Priestman, head of community safety for Slough Borough Council, said the teenager had been "discussed at length" by Thames Valley Police and by Slough Borough Council's community safety team, youth offending team and social care team.

"We are keen to offer Purnell and his family support to address the causes of his offending. However, we also have a duty to protect the residents of Slough from his behaviour."
