Homes left powerless by generator

Hundreds of homes in a Berkshire village were left without power on Saturday morning after an emergency generator ran out of fuel.

Houses in Barkham, near Wokingham, were running off the generator while engineers repaired a fault that had caused a power cut earlier in the week.

A spokeswoman for Southern Electric apologised for the problems caused by the work to a mains cable.

She added that residents' homes would soon be returned to the mains supply.
