Armed robbers have threatened staff at a jewellers with a sledgehammer before making off with jewellery.

Two men wearing balaclavas entered Glenray jewellers on the Market Place, Hitchin, Hertfordshire, on Friday and threatened two members of staff.

They stole jewellery before escaping in a Vauxhall Vectra, registration number KP55 FYK.

The car was later found abandoned in Old Charlton Road, Hitchin, and police believe the robbers may have then made off in a white van.
