Swimmer recovered from lake dies

A 30-year-old man has died after getting into trouble swimming in a lake in Bedfordshire.

Emergency services were called to the lake in Willow Way, Ampthill, at about 2100 BST on Saturday after reports of a man in the water.

The man was pulled from the lake and rushed to Bedford Hospital South Wing, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Bedfordshire Police said the death was not being treated as suspicious and the coroner had been informed.

A Bedfordshire Police spokeswoman warned the public of the dangers of swimming in lakes and waterways.

She said: "Officers are warning people to keep out of lakes and rivers.

"They know during the hot weather going for a swim can be a temptation but they are reminding members of the public that lakes and waterways can hold hidden dangers."
