Three held over 'Beckham theft'

David and Victoria Beckham

Two former housekeepers of David and Victoria Beckham have been arrested on suspicion of theft from their mansion in Hertfordshire.

Eric Emmett, 55 and his wife June, 56, from Nazeing, Essex, were arrested on suspicion of theft on Friday and released on bail.

It is understood police acted after items belonging to the former England captain and his wife appeared on eBay.

A 25-year-old Essex man has also been arrested and bailed, police said.

He is due to return to a police station in Hertfordshire in November.

Mr Emmett described the allegations as "nonsense".

'Harshest penalties'

Mr Emmett said: "What is in the papers is fabricated nonsense. Totally fabricated, 99% of it is totally untrue."

Police said the arrested pair had been bailed until 22 November.

A spokesman for Hertfordshire Police said the force was "investigating an allegation of theft from a private address in Hertfordshire".

"The theft was reported to police on Friday 10 October," he said.

A spokesman for eBay confirmed it was co-operating with Hertfordshire Police.

"If it transpires that our site was being used to list stolen goods then we will work with the police to press for the harshest penalties," he added.

The Beckhams' property is Rowneybury House, near Sawbridgeworth in Hertfordshire.
