Seal swimming 75 miles from sea

Seal in the Great Ouse taken by Dan Nickson

A seal has been spotted 75 miles (120 km) from the sea by visitors to a river festival in Bedfordshire.

The seal was seen swimming in the Great Ouse in Bedford by visitors to the town's festival over the weekend.

St John's Ambulance worker David Chapman said: "You wouldn't expect to see a seal so far inland. It took everyone by surprise."

The Environment Agency said it was aware of the seal's presence in the river and will track its movements.
