Traffic is halted in bridge trial

A historic bridge in Bedfordshire has been closed in one direction as part of a trial to stop vehicles from crashing into the stonework.

One lane of Bromham Bridge on the A428 will be closed until 9 August to traffic heading towards Bedford.

From 11 August to 18 October it will be closed to all motor traffic for the second phase of the trial.

The move follows discussions with residents and further consultation will take place at the end of the trial.
