Investigation into warehouse fire

Fire officers are investigating the cause of a fire which led to 15 homes being evacuated in Bedfordshire.

The blaze broke out at FAI Automotive plc, a car parts warehouse, on the Chiltern Trading Estate in Leighton Buzzard, on Saturday afternoon.

At the height of the blaze 30 firefighters worked at the scene, with police cordoning off the area.

People living near to the estate were moved from their homes amid fears the smoke contained asbestos particles.

Fire crews were alerted to the blaze by an automatic fire alarm at about 1630 GMT.

By 2100 GMT the fire had been limited to one unit and residents were able to return to their homes, a Luton and Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said.

An investigation is under way into the cause of the fire, the spokeswoman added.
