Family upset by theft from grave

A family has been left distraught after thieves stole toys, candles and flowers from a baby girl's grave.

The items were discovered missing on Monday from the grave at St Peter's Church, Church Lane in Sharnbrook, Bedfordshire, by the baby's mother.

They had been placed on the grave after the funeral on 11 July 2007.

Pc Alex Knibbs said: "This is the most heartless act I have ever come across. The baby's family has been left completely distraught."

He urged anyone who noticed anyone acting suspiciously in the area of the churchyard, or anyone with information to contact Bedfordshire Police.

He said: "I would make a direct appeal to the person who has committed this crime to return the items to the grave - especially the little Disney Eeyore which is of special sentimental value."
