Flooding as river swells in rain

About 70 homes and shops have flooded in Buckinghamshire after heavy rain caused river water levels to swell.

The Environment Agency issued flood warnings to homes in Buckingham overnight, with the River Ouse at risk of flooding.

In the early hours, the river's water level became higher than in 1998, when the town experienced serious flooding.

Residents forced to leave their homes have spent the night in the town's Radcliffe Centre.

The Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said it handled about 50 calls to flood incidents overnight across the county.

They aided 15 people, using a rescue boat from properties in Hunter Street, Buckingham, and 23 people from a block of flat's in the town's Nelson Street.
