Branston keeps power in Bedford
Bedford's mayor Frank Branston has been re-elected after a marathon count lasting almost 16 hours.
Mr Branston, of the Better Bedford Independent Party, saw off a Tory challenge.
But the long wait for the result was blamed on the electronic counting system - adding to the controversy surrounding technology in ballots.
Mr Branston was the third independent mayor to successfully defend his position in England.
