Aerial view of Leagrave Park and car park A man found murdered in a car park had been stabbed and beaten to death in an "horrific, savage and almost ritualistic killing", police say.

On Sunday, Bedfordshire Police launched a murder inquiry after a post mortem examination of the body, found in Leagrave Park, Luton, on Saturday.

The victim had been stabbed and beaten to death and sustained severe injuries to his entire body.

Police are trying to identify the dead man who was black and in his 20s.

He is described as 6ft tall and well built. He was found barefoot and wearing a black shirt and jeans under which he had on a pair of tracksuit trousers.

The ring found on the victim He was also wearing a gold bracelet on his wrist and a distinctive, chunky-style, square shaped silver ring on his right ring finger, with a black oval onyx-type stone in the middle of it.

The body was discovered in the corner of the Leagrave Park car park at 0607 BST on Saturday.

A major incident room has been set up at Luton Police Station led by Detective Chief Inspector Irene Meehan, who, while keeping an open mind, believes it is possible that the victim was murdered elsewhere and his body was dumped in the car park afterwards.

She said: "The manner of his death was horrific and the result of a savage and almost ritualistic killing in which he sustained severe injuries to his entire body."

"Due to the specific nature of his injuries only the killers know what they have done to him."
