New home for rescued orphan fawns

Three young Fallow deer orphaned when poachers shot their mothers in Norfolk have been rescued and re-homed.

The mothers of the deer, named Daisy, Foxglove and Lily, were shot near Sandringham Royal Estate.

The head deerkeeper at Houghton Hall, Norfolk, took them to Mountfitchet Castle in Stansted, Essex, where they are being cared for.

The three will now live in the Mountfitchet Castle complex, which is protected from poachers.

A spokeswoman for Mountfitchet Castle said the deer were being bottle fed by staff and were "doing very well".

She said poachers were a big problem in Norfolk and poachers often took the opportunity to shoot female deer that were with their babies.
