Probe into inmate's Facebook use

Prison officials are investigating after a Manchester gangster was able to update his Facebook profile from Frankland Prison in County Durham.

Domenyk Noonan, 45, also known as Lattlay-Fottfoy, is believed to have used a smuggled mobile telephone to add photos and comments to his webpage.

The Ministry of Justice said it was taking steps to tackle illicit phones.

Last week, it was revealed prisoner Kane Barratt, 21, from Stockport, had updated Facebook from Lancaster prison.

Noonan is serving a nine-and-a-half year sentence after being convicted of firearms offences in 2005.

A revolver and ammunition were found under the bonnet of his car when he was stopped by police in Darlington.

A Prison Service spokesperson said: "Prisoners cannot personally contribute to websites and we are determined to tackle illicit mobile phones.

"We are implementing a strategy to minimise the numbers entering prisons, and to find or disrupt the working of those that do get in.

"It is a criminal offence to bring a mobile phone or component into a prison, with a penalty of up to two years imprisonment."
