Land Rover halts production again

Production at the Land Rover factory in Solihull, West Midlands, has been delayed for another week.

Staff returned on Monday from an extended Christmas break but were told production lines would not be back in action until next week.

The company said that those workers affected would still be paid but given training instead.

Officials at the carmaker said they had not ruled out taking further action to survive the economic downturn.

Jaguar Land Rover announced a reduced working week in August.

It was also one of several large car manufacturers, along with Honda UK and BMW, which took an extended production break over Christmas.
