Under-threat food firm jobs saved

About 170 under-threat jobs at a Northumberland food factory have been saved after a buyer was found.

Cash flow problems and a rise in the cost of raw materials were blamed when Cheviot Foods in Amble went into administration in October.

Vantis Business Recovery Services said staff put in extra hours at the factory and a buyer has now been found.

It is being taken over by food firm Country Chef Limited, which will sign a contract on Friday.

Administrator Nick O'Reilly for Vantis said: "The quality of staff at Cheviot Foods has helped.

"They put in extra hours to make the business more attractive and we are hopeful of it moving forward and being successful."
