Man charged after house body find

Simon Sneddon

A 19-year-old has been charged with murder after the body of a man was found in County Durham.

Simon Sneddon was found with head injuries at a property in Forster Street, Darlington, on Friday.

The 25-year-old, of no fixed address, was pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem examination revealed he had died from multiple trauma injuries.

Philip John Nichol, of no fixed address, will appear before magistrates in Newton Aycliffe on Monday.

A 23-year-old man and a woman, 30, who were arrested in connection with the investigation have both been released.

Neither was charged but the woman was given police bail pending further inquiries.

Police said they were still actively seeking other suspects in relation to the offence.

Mr Sneddon was originally from the Barnard Castle area but had been staying at a number of addresses in County Durham and on Teesside prior to his death.

An incident room has been set up in Darlington.
