Man in court over student killing

Mohammed Al-Majed

A man has appeared before Hastings magistrates charged with the manslaughter of a Qatari student.

George Austin, 21, from Bermondsey, south London, is accused of killing Mohammed Al-Majed.

The 16-year-old died in August, two days after suffering an injury when he hit the pavement during a confrontation outside a takeaway in the Sussex town.

Two men are already facing charges over the incident. Mr Austin will appear at Lewes Crown Court on 5 December.

He was remanded in custody but a further case management hearing is scheduled to take place on 13 February.

Mr Austin was arrested on an aircraft which had arrived in the UK from Cyprus on Thursday night.

Mohammed was studying English at EF International Language Schools in White Rock, Hastings, and had been in the town for about five weeks.

His body was flown back to Qatar after he died at King's College Hospital, London.
