Friend 'angry' after player crash

A boy who survived a crash involving a professional footballer in which his best friend died says he gets angry with speeding drivers.

Former Plymouth Argyle goalkeeper Luke McCormick, 25, was jailed in October after admitting causing the deaths of Arron Peak, 10, and Ben Peak, eight.

Police estimated McCormick was going at 97mph on the M6 in Staffordshire.

Jackson Bennett, 8, of Partington, Gtr Manchester, who was best friends with Ben, said he was upset every day.

'Bit cross'

McCormick was jailed for seven years and four months after admitting causing the deaths and driving with excess alcohol.

The brothers, from Partington, died in the crash on the M6 in June.

Speaking to BBC children's programme Newsround, Jackson said: "I get a bit annoyed because of what happened because he (McCormick) was over the speed limit.

"So I get a bit cross when people go over the speed limit and angry.

"My first word(s) I said (were) 'who's going to be my best mate now?

"I had tears coming through my eyes and my heart was broken."

Jackson's sister, Sophie, 11, who was best friends with Arron, said McCormick "didn't get what he deserved".

She said: "He should have got 14 years at least, but I thought he should have got life, because he killed two of them."

McCormick, who was returning from a wedding, had ignored a plea from a friend to stop driving and pull over at services, the court heard.

The brothers were in a Toyota Previa, travelling to Silverstone racetrack, when the crash happened.

The car was involved in a collision with McCormick's Range Rover in the early hours on the southbound carriageway of the motorway between junctions 15 and 16, near Keele services.
