Painkiller cannabis man sentenced

A biker from County Durham, who illegally grew cannabis to use as a painkiller has received an eight month suspended sentence.

Wayne Barton, 40, from Darlington, pleaded guilty to cultivating cannabis and possessing the drug in 2007.

Teesside Crown Court was told on Monday he was now on a programme which allowed him to use a medical cannabis spray.

When he was arrested Barton told police he grew the plants to ease the pain of his injuries from a crash 25 years ago.
