Man remanded over driving death

Bryan and Liam Hardwick

A man charged with causing death by dangerous driving has appeared at crown court and been remanded in custody.

Bryan Hardwick, 26, a father of two, died when he was by hit by a car in Bishop Auckland, County Durham after a trip to collect conkers on 11 October.

David Weatherburn, 40, was also injured and died nine days later.

Anthony Whittacker, 26, charged with causing Mr Hardwick's death, was remanded until 23 December. He was also warned further charges may be brought.

The 26-year-old, of Cheesmond Avenue, Bishop Auckland, entered no plea at Durham Crown Court.

Mr Whittaker has also been charged with the theft of three boxes of lager from a nearby supermarket, and driving while disqualified.
