Bid to identify bin baby's mother

Waste centre in Fourth Drove

Police are making house-to-house inquiries in Worcester in a bid to trace the mother of a baby whose body was found at a recycling centre.

Officers are calling at more than 100 homes following the discovery in Peterborough on 27 August.

Police believe the baby had been left in a Worcester rubbish bin.

Detectives will focus on the London Road, Battenhall, Bath Road and Ronkswood areas, where household waste found near the baby's body originated.

Anyone who knows of a recently-pregnant woman who appears to have given birth, but has not been seen with the baby, is urged to contact police.

Det Insp Adrian Todd said: "Someone may have noticed such a situation, but has not yet realised that the matter is worth reporting to us.

"We are also hoping someone may have some idea about who the mother is and where she is now."

Anyone with information should contact South Worcestershire Police or Crimestoppers.
