A district council has joined forces with Suffolk and Norfolk county councils to start a petition for a dual carriageway on a section of the A11.
Forest Heath District Council is calling for work to improve the stretch of A11 between Fiveways at Barton Mills near Mildenhall and Thetford.
The council's leader Geoffrey Jaggard said the council was talking to the government about the twin carriageway.
The petition is available on the council's website.
Mr Jaggard said: "Lobbying the Government for the dualling of the A11 is one of Forest Heath District Council's corporate priorities.
"We have been involved in talks with government ministers and other key agencies to promote the importance of dualling the A11.
"People can show their support for this work by signing our petition."
