Woman ruled out of baby body case

Waste centre in Fourth Drove

A 22-year-old woman who was arrested over the discovery of a newborn girl's body at a waste recycling plant has been ruled out of the police inquiry.

A worker found the body at a council-owned Peterborough site on Wednesday.

Police said the baby's body reached the site, in the Fengate area, via a sorting plant in Bromsgrove, Worcs, from bins collected in Worcester.

Officers said the arrested woman, from the West Midlands, had been eliminated from their inquiries.

However, they said she had been bailed in connection "with other possible offences outside the West Mercia Constabulary area".

Det Insp Adrian Todd, of West Mercia Police, said officers were becoming "increasingly anxious to speak to the mother of the baby".

He said: "We remain unsure as to what area the body came from - it could, for instance, have been deposited during a visit to Worcester - but we are anxious to speak to the mother as we believe she may still be in need of help, medically and emotionally."
