New appeal over baby's body find

Waste centre in Fourth Drove

Detectives investigating the discovery of a dead baby girl in a waste plant have said they are looking at fresh information they have received.

On Thursday, police said the mother was likely to have come from the Worcester area and made an appeal to find her.

The baby's body was found on Wednesday 110 miles away from Worcester at a recycling plant in Peterborough.

Det Insp Adrian Todd said he was reviewing information which came in overnight following an appeal.

"We believe the mother could be at serious physical and emotional risk," he said.

"The investigation so far points towards the baby originating from in or around Worcester, although we cannot be absolutely certain at this stage."

A post-mortem examination did not establish the cause of death and tests are continuing, he said.

Officers believe the baby's body reached Peterborough via a waste sorting plant in Bromsgrove, having been collected from waste bins in Worcester.

Elaine Newell, head of midwifery for the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals, renewed her appeal for the mother to come forward.

"I remain very concerned about your well-being and my immediate priority is to ensure you receive any necessary midwifery and medical care.

"I appreciate you must be feeling very confused, upset and afraid," she said.

She left her mobile phone number for the mother to contact: 07775 800300.
