Long motorway delays after crash

The M54 was closed in one direction and and there were long tailbacks on the M6 after a car overturned earlier.

Two people were airlifted to hospital after the car they were travelling in crashed on the M54 between Wolverhampton and Telford.

The motorway was closed westbound between junction two near Featherstone and junction three Donington. There were six-mile tailbacks on the M6.

M54 traffic was affected for several hours but later reopened.

A spokesman for the ambulance service said the driver of the car, who is thought to be his in 30s, suffered head and chest injuries and had to be released from the vehicle by fire crews.

A woman passenger also suffered head and chest injuries.
