Route closed after car hits cow
A 30-mile (48km) stretch of road linking North Yorkshire and Cumbria was shut for four hours after a car struck a cow.
Police and Highways Officers shut the A66 following the accident at Bowes, in County Durham early on Tuesday.
The road was closed in both directions between Scotch Corner in North Yorkshire and Brough in Cumbria.
A spokeswoman for Durham Police said no other vehicles were involved in the accident at 0150 BST.
