Man charged over road chase death

A 23-year-old man has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving after a man was killed during a police pursuit on a motorway in County Durham.

William Forrest, 52, from Walbottle in Newcastle, died when his car was hit by a Mitsubishi which flipped over the central reservation of the A1(M).

The Mitsubishi was being followed by police vehicles on Friday morning, when it overturned at Bowburn.

The 23-year-old, of no fixed abode, also faces a charge of burglary.

He is due to appear before North Durham Magistrates' Court on Monday.

Mr Forrest, who was the father of two grown-up sons and worked as a printer for a company in Darlington, died at the scene of the crash.
