A multi-agency think-tank is looking at ways of improving services and support for people with autism in County Durham and Darlington.
More than 200 people from adult health and learning disability services will attend, alongside those with the condition and their families.
"Autism Visioning Day" on Monday has been organised by local authorities in County Durham and Darlington.
It aims to encourage the development of local agendas for action.
Luke Mulcahy, autism spectrum disorder care Co-ordinator for Durham County Council, said that the condition covered a wide-ranging spectrum.
"At one end, people can be highly functional, holding down skilled occupations, while at the other extreme are people who may experience learning disabilities or difficulties and require a high level of support.
"Our visioning day will bring together a wide range of views and ideas with the long term aim of developing better services and support networks for individuals living with autism spectrum disorder within County Durham and Darlington."
