Man killed by car is identified

The identity of a pedestrian who died after being hit by a car in Essex has been released by police.

Ross Crouch, 23, of School Road, Lawford, was walking along the A137, Cox's Hill, Manningtree, when he was hit by an Audi shortly after midnight.

Police investigating the crash, said Mr Crouch died later in hospital.

In a separate incident, a 69-year-old woman died in hospital after she was hit by a Citroen C2 on the B1052 at Little Walden, on Sunday evening.

The Citroen's 18-year-old driver, from Cambridgeshire, was arrested and released on police bail until 20 July.

None of the drivers was hurt in the crashes, police said.

Police said Mr Crouch had been an apprentice with Colchester United Football Club and had been offered a professional contract, but moved to Australia in 2006.

He then returned to the UK in 2007 and became a trainee bricklayer.
