Eurostar warns of Belgian strike

Eurostar train

Eurostar warns of cross-Channel rail disruption ahead of proposed strike action by railway workers in Belgium on Tuesday.

The company said it may be unable to run services between Brussels and the UK if the 24-hour strike goes ahead.

Eurostar has warned people planning to travel on Tuesday to change their plans, swap dates, or obtain refunds.

Action is planned to start on Monday night and services are expected to resume immediately after the strike.

A statement issued by the rail firm said there was a "strong probability" of industrial action.

It said the firm expected Brussels Midi station and the rest of the Belgian rail network to be closed if the strike happens.

Eurostar said closures would mean no rail services between Lille and Brussels Midi.

And it said there would be no onward rail connections from Brussels, on high-speed Thalys or ICE services, to destinations in France, the Netherlands and Germany.

Train cancellations

On Monday, the 1934 BST service from St Pancras international to Brussels would terminate at Lille.

On Tuesday, only the 1934 BST service from London would run to Brussels on the assumption that the lines would reopen that night. But Eurostar said tickets on that train would be limited.

A spokesman said services to Paris, from St Pancras International, Ebbsfleet International, and Ashford International, would operate normally and may make additional stops at Lille.

Services to Lille could see some disruption, but passengers could check in as normal, he said.

The spokesman said all Disneyland Resort Paris services would operate as normal.
